Reasons
behind Bad Breath
Bad breath is caused by a wide range
of factors such as foods with strong odours, Periodontitis, Gastritis, poor
brushing practices etc.
However, the good thing is that bad
breath is controllable. You just need to be careful with your food intake and
maintain good oral care.
Following
are some of the ways in which we can prevent bad breath –
1. Brushing and flossing
This is most well know yet most
ignored aspect, when it comes to maintaining the oral hygiene. Brushing your
teeth properly twice a day surely makes a lot of difference in the way your
breath smells. Flossing helps in removing the small food particles that get
stuck in your teeth and which are not removed while brushing.
2. Using herbs
Chewing
herbs like mint leaves have been found effective, although for a short
duration. These herbs not only provide fresh breath, but also aide in
digestion. You can also drink tea made by steeping mint leaves in boiling water.
3. Avoid smoking and chewing tobacco
Apart from causing host of other
diseases such as cancer, gum diseases, tobacco is also one of the main culprits
in causing bad breath (when used for smoking) which, is called as ‘Smoker’s
breath’. The best way to prevent this kind of breath is to stop consuming
tobacco completely.
4. Drink lots of water
Another main
reason for bad breath is dry mouth. The best way to prevent this is to drink
water at regular intervals. Water not only prevents dry mouth but also
increases the saliva production in the mouth which in turn clears away all stink causing substances.
5. Use mouth fresheners
